aye where is your badge?
So lemme explain another one of my Saturday’s… again they really be in 12hr spurts lol.
It all starts with the very last game in Bedlam history because OU is leaving the Big 12 and going to the SEC, so this is the last time we will ever get to see this rivalry… So of course Me and Moma gotta be there. Kesha sets up the play and I make a few phone calls. So I arrive a hour early and meet my loved ones all in 1 spot, at 1 time in the greatest 10 minute window of all time!
I’ve designed these shirts for Heard and he’s the 1st call, then I have Jay Rid’s new merch finished he’s call #2… lastly I have Dubb’s new sample’s for his merch he’s working on and he’s the 3rd and final call. Now 4 black men are standing on the corner of Hefner & Penn swapping merchandise outta bright orange custom Caiman Crocodile carry on bag. Bruuuuuh this look’s like the greatest international drug transaction of all time! It’s literally bags and packs of clothes everywhere, lotta “hell yeah’s.. ooooh that’s crazy…maaaaaan” whole lotta them. Then the police came in hot 2 cars deep wit sirens going and drove right past us and then parked. We all looked at each other like… “Yeeeaahhh it’s time to go”. It was the perfect movie scene… Now we head to the game.
There’s Rocket… the superstar looking like a true superstar.
Me: Rocket… this is my most trusted advisor… this is Dubb…
Rocket: Yes sir, Im Ronnie Davis… it’s nice to meet you… that crew icy.
Dubb: Nice to meet you young man, Im really a fan of your work. Really proud to see what you doing on the biggest stages… keep going.
Me: Mooommmaaa! (everybody hugs)
walks down to F8 row F seats 14,13,12,11
Dubb:… aye bruh I see all them 84’s on the back of them tee’s over there..
Me: whispers that’s what that bag was full of when we meet at the gas station..
Dubb:… what a look!
During the game we can’t never just sit still and focus on the game… so now the business meetings start. In those moments you become a fly on the mall and you sit back and observe. You watching yah big homie speak life into the little homie… you see the little homie drop a gem on the big homie… 2 different points of view but a common denominator… respect and vision. All while my big sister looks over at me and gives me that nod of approval. That nod that says im proud of you and happy with the moves you are making in this direction. As the game ends we make our way to the court because Kesha talking to the coaches and players. So we headed down like normal… Security right there on the court…
STOP. EXCUSE ME. WHERE YALL GOIN? AYE WHERE IS YOUR BADGE?
Me: You see that woman right there with Coach… that’s my sister and that’s where we going sir.
Security: looks over his shoulder Uhhh.. oh… yeah… ok. Go ahead.
Me: Thank you sir
Now it’s all shaking hands and kissing babies. Exposure and expectations. Remember when you get a seat at the table, ask yourself… Did you pull up a chair or did you just worry about your seat? Having access to these type of situations…. expose your people to it. Let them see what it feels like and how to play the room from this POV. That will get your wheels turning… that will put a battery in your back and give you the confidence to take full advantage of your opportunites. Then you see one of those moments happen in real time and you get to see how achievable your goals actually are.
Kesha: Ronnie, you wanna get a pic with my girl Tuck?
Ronnie: Yes mam of course, let’s do it.
Tuck: Hey I saw you on TikTok yesterday in your Louie Vuitton Cowboy stuff decked out!
Me: Tuck… this is my guy… where are my manners. Ronnie Davis.. this is Kennady Tucker aka Tuck & Roll!! Tuck this is Ronnie Davis.
Tuck: This is Dope.
Me: taps Dubb and whispers Look at how their generation moves when they are in the spotlight and interact with thier peers. I love to see it…
As we leave we continue our conversations from the game and plot out the moves for the week. As I proceed back to Dallas to meet with Zay for her birthday!! At this point Im running on gas station food and 2 cups of coffee. I make it back in time to change clothes and head down to the venu.. Tonite for the 1st time in my life, Im about to see Erykah Badu live! I walk in and fire off a couple of texts to locate Zay and start to wiggle. Man Say… Badu bring em out. Just know that… Badu brings em out, jack!
I find the gang and go straight for group hugs! I take 2 steps back and notice that Zay is wearing her custom coveralls that I made her for the show… my heart just drops. It’s the 1st time i’ve seen it since a made it a while back and it’s the 1st time she wore it. Aye if it’s my birthday weekend im bringing all the heat out the plastic and standing on bidnez too! I was so happy to see her in that and with the Nip puma’s… cmon! She ask’s how my day was and I quickly explain the game and the plans moving forward… etc etc.
As we waiting for Badu… one of the opening acts is The Alchemist… very interesting choice. Then we both find out that this is Badu’s Birthday Bash… so she has her favorite’s opening up! After that… Larry June and Cardo come out and perform! Like it was a lot going on at this Badu show… so finally 3 hours later… Badu comes out. It’s the production of the show… that’s where all her creativity and money goes. It’s the lights, it’s the messaging, it’s the videos… then it’s the band! That’s what yall are paying for… that production. Very good show. She didn’t sing next life time and I lowkey felt a way… but… she did Window Seat and me and Zay viiiiibed out off that cinderalla lol.
The show ends and our night comes to IHOP… as soon as we sat down and the waiter asked what we wanted to drink…
Me: Sir can I have a coffee
Zay: Lemme get 1 too…
Meme: Make that 2…
Grown folks. I AM WITH THE GROWN FOLKS!! We all laughed at the fact we out past our bedtimes but we starving and need some energy to make it home!
What a day…
I am so thankful for the humans in my life… for their consel, for their ear, for their love…
At times it’s hard for us to accept those flowers when someone geninunely appreciates your friendship. As much as we might feel they need it… it really be us that needs it. Every now and then you need to step away from it all and readjust. Sometimes you just need to see it from a different POV or hear it from the outside so you can realign your stars and get back on your marathon.
What a day…
“Aye Where is your badge?”
